Sophia DiCaro says her job is facilitating the needs of a team of “results-oriented, AAA grade, over-achievers.” Though DiCaro tries to pass credit to others, she has faced and conquered many challenges as deputy director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). DiCaro led the organization as it went through a restructure, a series of workflow modifications and enhancements, a move to a new location, and an increase in workload.
“My office nickname gives you an idea of my leadership style. My nickname is, ‘Mamma Soph.’ I think this says it all,” says DiCaro.
Prior to her current role, she served as the GOED finance director and, earlier, as the lead budget and policy analyst in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Budget.
“What I enjoy most about my work is the satisfaction of public service and seeing firsthand the impact we have on the people we serve, all while working in an exciting and dynamic environment with a team of people who continue to inspire me each day,” she says.
